17 Days Tanzania & Zanzibar Safari Tour
These 17 days (16 nights) safari will begin and finish in Arusha. You will enjoy so many things when you visit the following destinations. Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro crater, Tarangire National Park, Dar es Salaam, Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar.
You will spend 2 nights at Impala Hotel, 1 night at Lake Manyara Serena Hotel, 2 nights at Serengeti Serena Safari Hotel, 1 night at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, 3 nights at Z hotel, 3 nights at Selous Hippo Camp/ Lake Manze Tented Camp/ Rufiji River Tented Camp and 1 night at Swahili House.
Tour Itinerary for 17 days Tanzania Zanzibar
Day 1: Arrival.
You will be met at the International Airport of Kilimanjaro by your Driver/Guide and our representative. We will take you to the Mount Meru Game Lodge in Arusha. Our safari manager will come to welcome you and for a safari briefing. Dinner and overnight at Impala Hotel.
Day 2: Lake Manyara.
In the morning, you will have your breakfast and then drive to Lake Manyara National Park. By the time you get to Lake Manyara National Park, it will already be lunchtime, so you will have it there at the hotel or campsite. After lunch, you will embark on the search for Manyara’s waiting residents in an afternoon game drive. Of course, you will not fail to spot out a few animals like elephants, Hyenas, buffalos, Zebras, Antelopes and some others. Otherwise in the evening, you will head to Lake Manyara Serena Hotel where you will have your dinner and overnight from.
Day 3: Lake Manyara -Olduvai Gorge-Serengeti.
You are expected to have your usual morning breakfast with packed lunch because you will have your lunch en-route. After that, you will transfer to Serengeti National Park but you will first visit the Olduvai Gorge site of archaeological findings, where traces of pre-historic man dating back to 3.5 million years ago have been discovered. En-route, you can see some of the animals roaming around and others resting in tree shades. In this Park, the wildebeest and the zebras are the most common animals; you cannot spend a minute without spotting at least one. Most of the cat family can be seen in the plains while the elephants are a bit scarce. There are other animals (endangered black rhinos which are restricted at the Moru Koppies area. All these animals you will see on your next day after arrival. So you will arrive and have a late lunch and after you will proceed for a game drive, dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Safari Hotel.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park.
This day is very interesting because you learn a lot. So, after your breakfast, you will do the game driving activity in the Serengeti for the whole morning and this will indeed be memorable. Still in the afternoon, you will go back for the game drive and you will as well enjoy it for the second time. Because of too much fun, you will again excite your self with lunch, refreshments and relaxation at the lodge or campsite. At Serengeti National Park, you will be in a position to view all the big five and other animals like the zebras, gazelle, antelopes, wildebeest and some others. You will later get to know that some animals like wildebeest and zebras do migrate in June and July. This Serengeti National Park also has a few carnivores like lions, leopards, hyenas and cheaters. This day will indeed be exciting, so you will have your dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge.
Day 5: Ngorongoro crater.
This will be like another new day. You will wake up, take a shower and breakfast and then go for a game drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Your Driver/Guide will make several stops along the way at various places of interest, including a stop at the edge of the escarpment overlooking Lake Manyara. After arrival in Ngorongoro, you will descend into the crater for a game drive. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds, to name a few. Your Driver/Guide will be in contact with other safari drivers and will amaze you with his skill at locating hidden animals. In the evening, you will transfer back to Ngorongoro Serena Hotel where you will have your dinner and overnight from.
Day 6: Tarangire – Arusha.
On this day, you will have your morning breakfast and then visit a Masai Village or go on a Nature Walk at the Northern Crater Rim of Ngorongoro Crater inhabited by buffaloes, elephants, baboons, monkeys and different species of birds. Escorted by a ranger or Masai Guide you follow animal paths through dense bush. Later on, you will transfer to Arusha for some shopping for those of you who will be interested and for those of you who will not be interested will do the sightseeing for a few minutes and then continue I Arusha town for your dinner and overnight at Impala Hotel.
Day 7: Transfer to Dar Es Salaam-Selous.
After breakfast, transfer to Arusha airport and flight via Dar Es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve. Transfer from the airstrip to your lodge for a meeting with the lodge manager to discuss your program for the following two days. The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure. Enjoy some time at the poolside or great sundown from the lodge’s unique lounge area. Your lodge consists of stone cottages and luxury tented bandas situated over Beho-Beho Hillside of Sable Mountain. Dinner and overnight at Selous Hippo Camp/ Lake Manze Tented Camp/ Rufiji River Tented Camp.
Day 8 & 9: Selous Game Reserve.
After your morning breakfast, you will have a walking safari accompanied by an experienced guide; here you will have the opportunity to ‘touch the wild’. But at lunchtime, you will go back to Selous hippo camp for your heavy lunch. After lunch, you will have a boat safari in the Rufiji River, where you’ll meet animals like the hippos and crocodiles, lion, leopard, hunting dog, and numerous other species such as waterbuck, impala, warthog, eland, giraffe, zebra and elephant in their natural habitat, The Kudu. After your interesting activity, you will depart back for your dinner and overnight at Selous Hippo Camp/ Lake Manze Tented Camp/ Rufiji River Tented Camp.
Day 10: Selous-Zanzibar
After your morning breakfast, you will transfer to Selous Airstrip for your connecting flight to Zanzibar. You might get there by lunchtime so you will have it and then head to Zanzibar at Nungwi Beach. Your dinner and overnight at Z Hotel.
Day 11&15: Beach Extension.
On this day, you will wake up in the morning, have your breakfast and then organize your beach particulars. Some of these include swimming costumes, head banners for those with long hair. Those who will spend 2 full days at the beach having fun but those who will not be interested in swimming will either sunbathe, spend time on the beach, play beach volleyball or stay in their rooms. Because the beach is best enjoyed in the evening when the sun is going down, you will first visit the stone town and also go for the spice tours which many people call fruit tours. Dinner and overnight will be at the Z hotel.
Day 16: Spice Tour & Stone town.
On this day, you will have your morning breakfast and then proceed to the stone town where history appears to stand still. You will have visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), Dr Livingstone’s House and the Arab Fort amongst others; it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques! It is interesting here; you might feel like not leaving the place. In the evening, you can as well decide to take a prison island or a private island trip for an extra cost such that in the evening you transfer back to Swahili House for your dinner and overnight.
Day 17 Departure
It is the last day of your fantastic safari, you will be given a feedback form to write whatever you have or have not liked about your safari as you take your morning breakfast. After your morning breakfast, you will transfer to Zanzibar Airport you’re your departure flight back home.
